STEP 1:

 
Edit Settings Menu In your settings area, go to the "Offline IM" tab and select the ability to receive and/or send offline IMs. Keep in mind that by default, all users have this ability enabled.

STEP 2:

 
Select Offline Buddy Select an offline buddy and...
 
...send him/her an IM.
Offline Message Sent
 
When your buddy logs back into AIM he or she will receive your IM! It's that simple.
 
• Only users of AIM 6.0 have the ability to send offline IMs.
 
• You will only receive offline IMs sent by buddies on your Buddy List.
