Artwork Optimized for OS X

One of the first things you will notice with this version of AIM is the snappy new application icon artwork. Just like the AIM application itself, the new icon really stands out above the rest! There is a new IM notification badge that pulses as new messages arrive. There's even an Away badge that appears whenever you go into Away mode. This way, you will always be able to tell when you are away, even when AIM is in the background.

New Away Options

Due to popular demand, we have added the option to make your Away message window a floating window or standard window. In floating mode, the Away window always floats above all other application windows so you can easily monitor your status. In standard mode you can hide or minimize the Away window like all other windows in the AIM application.

New Idle Options

Most users configure AIM to go into Away mode whenever AIM is idle for more than 10 minutes. Now AIM also offers a quick way to exit the Idle/Away state when you return to your computer. Just enable the "Automatically exit away mode" check box and when you move your mouse or click your keyboard, AIM will automatically close the idle away message and update your online status.

Dock Menu Support

Now you can access more of AIM's features directly from the application icon menu. Ever have trouble finding a specific IM window when you have multiple conversations happening at once? That's not a problem anymore; simply click the application icon and select the IM you're looking for! Likewise, the application menu also allows you to bring any open AIM window into focus, and with the Away submenu, going into Away mode is a snap!

Folder Preferences

Many of you asked for the ability to store your custom Buddy Icons, Sounds, Scripts, and Log Files in your own preferred location. With AIM's new Folder preferences, it's a snap. Just go to AIM preferences, select the Folder category, click the Choose Folder button and navigate to the folder that you want to use.

New Font Preferences for incoming IM and Chat messages

Ever receive illegible fonts from some of your buddies? Now AIM gives you the option to apply your own font settings to incoming IMs and chat messages.

New Event Action Support
AIM has added several new Event Actions in preferences. Users can assign custom sounds, run scripts, and automatically log various events as they occur in AIM. For instance, you can configure the "File List Requested" and "File Transfer Requested" events to automatically write to a log file anytime a buddy accesses your shared file list and/or requests a file. With access to over 26 events in AIM, there are many tasks you can automate. Go to Prefs>Event Actions, to learn more.
