Q: What is Screen Name linking and why would I want it?

If you use more than one AIM Screen Name, you know what a hassle it can be to toggle between multiple Buddy List windows cluttering your desktop. With AIM's new Screen Name Linking feature, you can be LawyerLisa783 and LisaHome783 at the same time, all in one Buddy List! Screen Name linking allows you to be logged on with multiple AIM identities at the same time, send and receive IM's and move between your Buddy Lists all from one window!

Q: Will I have to enter the Screen Name and password for each of my linked Screen Names each time I sign onto the linked AIM service?

| A: No, enter one Screen Name and you'll see each of the other Screen Names linked to it.

Q: How do I use this feature and how many of my AIM Screen Names can I link?

AIM allows you to link up to 8 of your Screen Names. If you're linking two Screen Names, create them, link them and you can be online as both, regardless which of the two Screen Names you sign in with. If you're linking more than two Screen Names, pick one to be your master account, sign into the AIM service with that master Screen Name and link your other Screen Names to it. When sign into the AIM service with this master Screen Name you will be able to see it and all the other Screen Names you linked to it in your Buddy List window. If you sign in with one of the other Screen Names, you will only see that Screen Name and the master Screen Name in your Buddy List window.

Q: When I link my Screen Names, do the preferences set for each specific Screen Name stay in place?

Yes, when you link your AIM Screen Names, each Screen Name will maintain it's preferences. So, for example, if you've set up Mobile IM, blocked certain names or are using a certain buddy icon for a specific Screen Name, those settings will remain the same when that Screen Name is linked. To change preferences for a specific Screen Name you'll need to sign on to the AIM service with that Screen Name and change your preferences.

Q: How do I get all my AIM Screen Names/Identities in one Buddy List® Window?

1. Under My AIM on your Buddy List menu, click Manage Linked Screen Names.
2. Click Link/Unlink Screen Names & follow the sign-in process.
3. Click Add a Screen Name, type your Screen Name, as well as the password associated with it and click the Save button.
4. Click Add a Screen Name to repeat process and link additional Screen Names.
5. When done close the window and sign off of the AIM service. The next time you sign on Screen Name linking will be activated.

Q: What Does the Eye Icon Next to My Other Screen Names on My Buddy List Window Mean?

If you watch closely, the Eye Icon opens and closes. When the Eye is closed, it means you're 'Invisible' to the buddies in that Buddy List window. When it's open, you're visible to buddies in that Buddy List window.

Q: How Do I Know Which Buddy List Window I Am Looking At?

All your linked Screen Names are shown at the bottom of your Buddy List window. The Screen Name of the Buddy List you're currently using is shown at the top of the Buddy List window and stays there until you click on another linked Screen Name.
